We are looking for more girls to join our Brownies group. We’d like to expand now that we have more leaders…and more gilrs = more fun!

We meet on Tuesday evenings 6pm-7:30pm (during term time) at the Salvation Army Hall, Latimer Road, Winton

A chance for girls aged 7-10 to make new friends, gain badges, go on sleepovers and adventure holidays, have fun outdoors, complete challenges and more… Brownies Poster – click here

Things we have planned starting from September – rock climbing, abseiling, crate building, a night hike, a pack holiday weekend, circus/fair event, loads of great arts and craft activities, cooking up some yummy treats, deal or no deal evening, musical instruments sessions – plus games, songs and all sorts!

Pride in Bournemouth

Pride in Bournemouth is an exciting public art event to be staged through the summer of 2011. It will bring together residents, visitors, schools, artists and businesses in a fun way!
Artists will decorate life-size lions, sponsored by local businesses which will then be placed around the town, encouraging exploration of Bournemouth and raise money for Julia’s House and the Born Free Foundation.

Rock Choir is a ‘national phenomenon’ where the public is offered the chance to sing in a friendly and professional contemporary choir. There are no auditions and no experience necessary. All are welcome to come and sing some feel good popular classics, and be a part of something wonderful!

Bournemouth Sevens Festival crowned huge success

Following the third installment of the world-renowned sport and music extravaganza, the Bournemouth Sevens Festival announced record crowds of 20,000 people over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Having grown significantly since the inaugural event in 2008, the festival now hosts the largest rugby and netball festival in the world with 156 rugby sevens teams and 96 netball teams competing on the sunny south coast.

Live bands and DJs entertained the crowds all weekend in the Kopparberg Campsite, Nintendo Festival Stage and Carling Beer Tent. Radio 1’s, DJ Spoony also made an appearance spinning party tunes in the exclusive VIP Arena.

Other entertainment included a stunt parachute display, video diary room, Pitchside Jacuzzi, party bus, fancy dress, big screen TV and Rock-e-oke.

A host of celebrities and sports stars including England rugby internationals Austin Healey, Ugo Monye, Dan Hipkiss and Olympic gold medalist Jason Gardiner all enjoyed the weekend’s festivities in the exclusive V.VIP celebrity lounge.

Ugo Monye commented, “Bournemouth Sevens is bigger than any IRB tournament, it’s the biggest sevens tournament in the world”.

Festival Director, Roger Woodall, commented, “This year’s festival is unrecognisable from the first year as there’s so much more going on over the weekend. Diamond Sports Events put on such an amazing festival and pay a lot of attention to detail so people leave with a great experience and bring more and more people every year.“

Bournemouth Council to Demolish the BCCA

Tuesday 18th May and Tuesday 25th May at 7.30pm in The Green Room, Portman Hotel, Ashley Road, Boscombe

Bournemouth Council have submitted plans to demolish the Boscombe Centre for Community and Arts (BCCA). We are holding 2 public meetings and have invited Council Leaders, Ward Councillors, residents, traders, community groups and local professionals to attend.

The Council’s plans are for an “integrated services hub” built with £2.3 million they received from the Dept. for Children, Schools and Families (DFCS). Will this mean more services for drug addicts and alcoholics and those on probation or not? We simply don’t know because of B’mth Council’s conflicting reports on their own documents, which are in the public realm. Certainly, we don’t want it – and recovering addicts tell us they don’t want it either.

We put forward a business plan to reopen the BCCA with programmes for all the community aimed at curbing anti-social behaviour, increasing health and wellbeing, increasing educational attainment and social inclusion and aiding economic regeneration. Substantial money has been spent on the seafront – we advocate money needs to be invested in Central Boscombe where it is most desperately needed providing something meaningful for the majority of the community.

Our business plan was praised by Bournemouth Council – and it did not rely on any Council funding. Once B’mth Council obtained the £2.3 million and made the unilateral decision to change sites from the one noted on their application form to the BCCA, however, things changed.

We do believe that “safe services” sited at the BCCA together with our programmes could provide the most exciting, positive thing that Boscombe has received for very many years and there is space at the BCCA for both.

If you’re involved in organising or managing a local sports club, you can now submit stories and news, including results to the Buzz Sports section.

This is a trial service and we will be providing it free of charge to local sports clubs and teams for one month from the launch of the service, which is expected to commence by 9th October. Following that, we will review the service and will contact you accordingly. There will be no obligation to continue using the service.
